COMMON QUESTIONS

What People Are Asking Us

What is canine bodywork?

Canine bodywork involves the hands-on manipulation of a dog's soft tissues to promote health and well-being. Benefits may include relaxation, improved circulation, relief from pain, and enhanced joint flexibility.

How can my dog benefit from bodywork?

Bodywork can help alleviate muscle tension, improve mobility, aid in recovery from injuries, and provide overall relaxation. It's beneficial for dogs of all ages, from active canines to senior pets.

Is bodywork suitable for all dogs?

While most dogs benefit from bodywork, we do recommend checking in with your veterinarian before starting sessions, especially if your dog has underlying health conditions.

How often should my dog receive bodywork sessions?

The frequency depends on your dog's individual needs, health status, and activity level. Some dogs benefit from weekly sessions, while others may do well with monthly maintenance.

What should I expect during a bodywork session?

Sessions typically involve gentle manipulation of muscles and joints. The therapist will assess your dog's needs and tailor the session accordingly. Most dogs find the experience relaxing and enjoyable.

Are there any conditions where bodywork isn't recommended?

Yes, dogs with certain conditions like fever, infections, or open wounds should avoid bodywork. Always consult with your veterinarian before starting sessions.

Where do we see you for rehab & recovery sessions?

I come to you at home because typically your dog will relax better in their own environment.

What is laser and how does it help my dog?

Laser therapy (also called photobiomodulation) uses gentle light energy to stimulate healing at a cellular level. It helps reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and speed up recovery in dogs with arthritis, injuries, or post-surgery healing. Most dogs find it relaxing — some even fall asleep during treatment!

Is laser therapy safe for all dogs?

Yes — when performed by a trained professional, laser therapy is very safe and non-invasive. It’s suitable for dogs of all ages and breeds. We always assess your dog first to make sure it’s the right fit for their condition, and we’ll tailor the treatment plan to your dog’s individual needs.

Do I need to do anything before my dog's massage session?

For all massage sessions I'll send you a pre-assessment form to fill out before we meet so I have an idea of what to look for. For grooming I'll send you a grooming form asking you about your dog's history and what you're wanting from a groom.

What happens during a massage session?

I'll start with relaxing massage to get your dog to chill.
Then I'll target specific muscle areas to work on based on your dogs needs.
We'll finish up with more relaxing strokes to encourage blood, nutrient, and lymph flow for optimum recovery.

Can I stay with my dog during the session?

Absolutely! Your presence can provide comfort and reassurance to your dog during the session.

Is the app free?

The Canine Health Hub app is free to download and has heaps of free content available. If you want full access we have a membership option where you can pay $9.99usd per month for all access to our full library AND canine massage course.

How long will grooming take?

A groom can be anything from 1-4 hours depending on the dog, breed, nature, etc. We are a force free and calm grooming studio & will always put a dog's health first. So if it takes a little longer because your dog is nervous, that's fine with us.

How do I pay for recovery & grooming sessions?

We'll email you an invoice after the session that has a link to make payment or account details for bank transfer. If you prefer to pay in cash that's fine too.

What are your qualifications?

I have qualifications in canine myo-manipulative functional therapy, exercise rehabilitation, cold laser, kinesiology taping, canine conditioning, and I am a certified dog groomer. I am currently studying Canine Osteopathy. I am registered with the IAAMB (International Association of Animal Massage & Bodywork) and I am also fully insured.
